Over the years Bernard Mitchell has photographed many hundreds of artists and writers, creating his ongoing ‘Welsh Arts Archive’. In 1999 a large exhibition of the portrait photographs was shown at the National Library of Wales and in 2016 he gifted his collection of portraits to the Richard Burton Archive at Swansea University. This large-format hardback from Parthian Books gives a glimpse of a remarkable archive and some background to what Mitchell refers to as his ‘jigsaw’ of the arts in Wales over the last fifty years.
