The experience of being besieged by a global pandemic, and the ‘stay at home’ rule has had the effect of focusing our minds on the specificity of our square mile, our milltir sgwâr; its place in Wales, and its particular place within the world – and the vast, teeming tracery of life (including pathogens…) that we are enmeshed in: capitalism, the ecosphere – with the occasional faint twinge of fellow-feeling vibrating down the threads that bind us together, somehow managing to defy the inequality and sheer insensibility towards others that so often characterise our species.
