Homesick: Why I Live in a Shed
by Catrina Davies

by Catrina Davies

Quercus, £9.99

In Homesick: Why I Live in a Shed, Catrina Davies describes an attempt to live by her own values rather than succumb to the harsh economic logic that seems to dictate her life choices. She relinquishes city living in Bristol – paying exorbitant rent for a box room – to pursue a rural existence in her father’s abandoned shed in Cornwall. Her flatmates, she observes dryly, could not imagine life outside of ‘the bustling centre of things, where people collected together to buy and sell, strive, dance, and bounce ideas off each other’.
