In a series that proposes how Wales can change after lockdown, Grace Quantock argues that the ‘hyper-vigilance’ of those who live with a disability can offer valuable models of thinking for society at times of crisis.

I was taking a short cut through an alley to the bus stop from Cardiff Central Library where I volunteered every Saturday, offering therapy for people who couldn’t afford it. A group of teens running towards me saw my mask. In 2019, masks were still an unusual sight. ‘Look at her! What does she know that we don’t?’ they called to each other, swarming past me.
