The Edge of Cymru: A Journey
by Julie Brominicks

by Julie Brominicks

Seren, £12.99

When environmental educator Julie Brominicks left her long-term post at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, she decided to walk the perimeter of her adopted country. Her job had left her feeling tired; she had always wanted to be a writer. The Edge of Cymru: A Journey, her first book, is testament to her determination and stamina not only as a walker (she traversed 1,027 miles, usually alone, often in tough conditions), but as a first-time author (for whom conditions are also tough). The book has been years in the making, the product not only of her solo expedition but also of her deep research into social history, geology, environmental history and ecology. It’s a rich, wide-ranging work and a seriously impressive achievement.
