Don’t Ask About My Genitals
by Owen J Hurcum and
And
by Isabel Adonis

by Owen J Hurcum

Black Bee, £8.99

Both these debut non-fiction titles from Black Bee explore identity from Welsh perspectives. As the former mayor of Bangor, Owen Hurcum was the youngest ever to serve in this position in Wales and (reportedly) the first openly non-binary mayor in the world. In Don’t Ask About My Genitals, Hurcum provides a short and accessible introduction to gender identity. Meanwhile, in And… a memoir of my mother, Isabel Adonis sets about ‘negotiating personal and racial identity in Wales’ through the story of her own Welsh and Guyanese-born parents.
