As Jon Gower’s foreword explains, the inspiration behind this collection of fourteen short stories was the experimental novel Finbar’s Hotel (1999), a collaborative work consisting of seven separately authored chapters. But while the stories/chapters of Finbar’s Hotel never leave the confines of a Dublin hotel, the stories in Clymau (which can be translated as ‘knots’ or ‘bonds’) are set in a wide range of localities, not just within Wales, but in France, England, Spain and Hungary too.

About the author

A former student of the University of Glamorgan, Harri Roberts published his doctoral research under the title Embodying Identity: Representations of the Body in Welsh Literature (UWP, 2009). Harri currently works as a freelance editor, Welsh translator and outdoor writer. The author of a number of walking guides, he has recently ventured into e-publishing with his partner Tracy.
